GWS Medika Supports Social Service Activities
Being present and serving closer to the community in need is part of the commitment of GWS Medika, a health clinic in Jakarta.
On Sunday morning (25/8), GWS Medika attended the Lentera Pustaka Community Reading Park, Bogor, and became part of the social service activities organized by Bank Sinarmas and the Sinarmas branch of the Indonesian Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation. This event is part of a series of activities for Bank Sinarmas' 35th anniversary on August 18.
Since the morning, this reading place has been filled with children who are members of the reading park and mothers who will receive rice donations. Volunteers and medical teams also appeared to be preparing to welcome their arrival.
This social service activity aimed to donate rice to mothers and conduct free health checks. The event began at 09.00 and was opened with the “Welcome” dance by children from TBM Lentera Pustaka, a reading park fostered by Bank Sinarmas.
In his speech, Mr. Ekajaya Ongny Putra, Director of Bank Sinarmas, said that this social service activity was a significant step toward achieving sustainable social care with a spirit of love and care by distributing aid and spreading hope and kindness, which can inspire everyone.
TBM Lentera Pustaka was established in 2021. Every week, around 200 children come to this place to read. Syarifudin Yusuf, the founder and head of the program, said that currently, TBM Lentera Pustaka is one of the top ten reading parks throughout Indonesia.
Mr. Tawang Sotya Djati, a Sinarmas Tzu Chi Buddha Foundation representative, continued with a message to the mothers who received the donation to be grateful for today's activities. Donations and health check activities are forms of love and hope that are always in the heart.
Following the donation of rice distribution by the Director of Bank Sinarmas and the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation, the event continued with a free health check-up for 108 patients who were first given coupons. Mothers were seen queuing for themselves or their children.
First, the GWS Medika team conducted a general examination, checking weight, height, and blood pressure.
After the physical examination, the patient consults with a doctor. During the consultation, the doctor explains the examination result, provides a diagnosis, and suggests the right treatment. For patients who need it, the doctor also provides education about a healthy lifestyle to prevent complications.
Patients who have received a doctor's prescription see a team of pharmacists assisted by Buddha Tzu Chi volunteers to receive medicine. In addition to providing medicine according to the doctor's prescription, pharmacists also provide information on how to use the medicine correctly, possible side effects, and drug interactions with food or other drugs.
After the examination, dr. Anindita Tathya Jati, one of the team of doctors, said that most patients came with complaints of illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes, stomach acid, and joint pain.
Mrs. Yayat, one of the patients, said she was happy with the free check-up. This is because the distance between her home and the health center is quite far. "So far, if I don't go to the health center, I only take medicine from the shop." "The doctor is friendly, they asked me everything," she continued.
