Firefighting and Basic Life Support Training to Improve Emergency Preparedness in Clinics
To improve emergency preparedness in the workplace, GWS Medika held firefighting training (5/10) and basic life support (9/10) for the clinic's medical team. The firefighting training was held at Sinarmas Plaza Land Tower 2, at Jl. M.H. Thamrin No. 51, Jakarta Pusat. The medical team from the GWS Medika Clinic attended this training.
Meanwhile, a Basic Life Support (BLS) refresher was held at the GWS Medika Clinic in Kalibata. dr. Anindita Prasidha, an internationally certified BLS instructor, delivered the refresher.
Firefighting and BLS training aims to provide participants with basic skills in dealing with emergencies, such as fires and emergency medical conditions, so they can respond quickly and effectively.
Firefighting and Basic Life Support (BLS) are two critical competencies that employees must master to ensure the safety of the work environment and the safety of themselves, coworkers, and patients.
Fire fighting
In the Fire Fighting session, participants are taught how to recognize types of fires, how to utilize light fire extinguishers (APAR), and primary fire extinguishing techniques.
Before the participants practiced extinguishing techniques using APAR and wet sacks, Tika Astari, a certified K3 instructor from GWS Medika, explained how to extinguish fires and extinguishing techniques. The building safety team also added fire extinguishing techniques using wet sacks.
Yudi Saputra, GWS Medika training team, revealed the purpose of the firefighting training, "Equipping clinic employees with the knowledge and skills needed to handle small fires and the use of APAR so that they can respond to emergencies quickly and effectively. By having a good understanding of fire extinguishing techniques, it is hoped that employees can handle them well and reduce the risk of spreading fires."
Basic Life Support (BLS)
In the Basic Life Support simulation session, the medical team refreshed the steps in providing first aid to cardiac arrest victims experiencing difficulty breathing in the clinic. This refresher includes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and breathing assistance when dealing with patients who suddenly become unconscious.
Medical instructors from the GWS Medika training team demonstrated the BLS procedure using a mannequin. Each participant then performed a CPR simulation to refresh their knowledge of the proper techniques and pressures to use when providing emergency help.
dr. Anindita Prasidha, a BLS training instructor, explained, “BLS is crucial to be applied properly because every minute counts, especially for patients who suddenly become unconscious. Thus, regular BLS training will provide health workers with the latest information on first aid for cardiac arrest patients.”
The BLS refresher will be held routinely at every GWS Medika Clinic. Currently, GWS Medika has six clinics located throughout Jakarta.
Benefits of training
The Fire Fighting and Basic Life Support training programs are part of GWS Medika’s commitment to ensuring patient and employee safety and creating a safe and responsive work environment for emergencies. With this training, the medical team is expected to be better prepared to deal with potential fires and emergency medical conditions in the clinic.
Through this training, GWS Medika hopes the medical team can work more calmly and focus and have sufficient basic knowledge to handle emergencies. This training also shows the company's commitment to creating a safe and aware work environment.
