Exposure to air pollution combined with unpredictable seasons makes us sick quickly. One of these is the influenza.

Flu, often known as influenza, is a disease caused by an influenza virus infection that affects the nose, throat, and lungs.

Influenza viruses weaken the immune system. Even if the symptoms appear to be minor, influenza can cause serious complications for most people.

The influenza vaccine is derived from dead viruses.

The flu symptoms are as follows:

• Fever >38 C
• Cough/cold
• Sore throat
• Fatigue
• Sometimes nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
• Shortness of breath

The influenza vaccine protects against four types of influenza viruses:

• Influenza type A (H1N1)
• Influenza type A (H3N2)
• Influenza type B (Victoria)
• Influenza type B (Yamagata)

This vaccination is safe to provide to pregnant women in their second trimester and above.

Vaccine schedule

• Adults: 1 dose per year (pregnant women in any trimester are permitted).

• Children aged 6 months–9 years: administer two doses with a minimum interval of 4 weeks in the first year, then repeat every year.

• Children above 9 years old: one dose should be repeated annually.

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to any of the vaccination components, including gentamicin.
• allergies to the previous influenza vaccine.
• history of severe egg or chicken allergies

Vaccination should be postponed for persons with fever or acute infection as well as those taking immunosuppressive medication.

Persons with a history of immunodeficiency may not react to vaccination.
