Welcoming World Diabetes Day, GWS Medika Holds AI-Based Health Checks and Diabetic Retinopathy Webinar

In commemorating World Diabetes Day, GWS Medika held a series of events titled "Early Detection of Diabetes with AI Technology" to raise awareness about the importance of preventing diabetes complications, especially diabetic retinopathy.

These activities included a health screening using AI Fundus technology and a webinar entitled Diabetic Retinopathy: Prevention and How AI Technology Helps for Early Detection, with resource person Dr. dr. Aris Wibudi, Sp.PD-KEMD and guided by dr. Anindita Prasidha Prameswari.

AI Fundus technology for early detection of chronic diseases

The health screening held by GWS Medika was the result of collaboration with Sinar Mas Land building management and was intended for the building management staff and tenants.

Using AI Fundus technology, participants could detect the risk of nine chronic diseases through photos of the eye's retina.

This technology works by linking blood vessels in the retina with heart and brain health conditions, providing results with an accuracy of up to 98%. This examination aims to encourage healthier lifestyle changes, such as consuming nutritious foods and exercising regularly.

One of the participants, Luna, shared her experience after taking this screening. "I was interested in trying it because most health screenings use blood samples. With AI Fundus, the results were quick, and I felt relieved that no risk of serious diseases was detected," she said. Luna plans to maintain her health by exercising regularly and eating healthy foods.

AI Fundus technology evaluates various health risks, including:

  • Risk of arteriosclerosis
  • Early detection of glucose metabolism disorders
  • Anemia risk assessment
  • Cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Cognitive impairment risk evaluation
  • Brain tumor detection
  • Macular vision impairment analysis
  • Risk of inhaled particle exposure
  • Diabetic retinopathy analysis

Educational webinar for the medical team

In addition to health checks, GWS Medika also held a webinar attended by 50 participants from clinic staff, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and paramedics.

This webinar became a forum for discussion and education for the medical team to improve their capacity in early detection of diabetic retinopathy, a serious complication that can lead to blindness if not managed properly.

"Blindness due to diabetic retinopathy can be prevented with good diabetes control. When someone is diagnosed with diabetes, he/she must have a retinal examination and regular check-ups every 1-2 years, provided that their blood sugar is good. This is to prevent blindness," said Dr. Aris. "Accurate retinal examinations using AI technology can prevent retinopathy early on. Know your risk, know your response."

Towards better health

The series of events held by GWS Medika on November 14 demonstrates a commitment to enhancing public health with the latest technology. The use of AI Fundus and educational webinars aim to strengthen efforts to prevent diabetes complications and improve patients' quality of life.

GWS Medika hopes that the public will become more aware of the importance of early detection and proper health management, particularly for people with diabetes so that they can have a healthier and better life.
