Eid Homecoming Tips: Safe Travels and Warm Family Gatherings

Eid is coming soon. Eid is a moment for every Muslim to gather with their families. Are you ready to go home? Let's check what needs to be done to get home without obstacles.

1. Do stretching or relaxation

Traveling long distances will definitely make your body ache. To avoid this, do stretching during the trip to maintain stamina and reduce fatigue.

If you use a private vehicle, you can do it when refueling or taking a short break at a rest area. Get out of the car and stretch around the area for a while. This will help reduce aches and pains caused by sitting too long.

Don't force yourself to travel without rest. If you feel sleepy and tired, try taking a break and sleeping for 15 minutes so that your body can rest and be ready to continue the journey.

You can stay active and move if you use train or plane transportation. Stretching helps maintain blood flow and prevent leg cramps. You can also rotate your ankles or lift your legs periodically.

2. Taking vitamin

Taking vitamins before traveling is a crucial step to keep your body fit. Vitamins can help increase endurance, prevent fatigue, and prepare your body for new weather and environments. In addition, vitamins also help to preserve stamina during the trip.

Recommended vitamins include vitamins B Complex, C, and D. In addition to taking vitamins orally, you can also consider vitamin infusion therapy as an alternative to increase endurance.

3. Bring healthy and nutritious supplies

Bringing nutritious supplies helps maintain health and energy during the trip and reduces the risk of digestive disorders and dehydration. Use airtight containers and pack food in single-meal portions to avoid contamination due to repeated taking from the same container.

Avoid foods that are too spicy or sour to ensure safe digestion. Also, keep paying attention to your meal schedule even while traveling, especially if you have digestive conditions like GERD.

If you bring fruit, choose whole fruit so it lasts longer. If you get cut fruit, store it in a cold container so the fruit stays fresh during the trip.

4. Prepare essential medications

Ensure you bring first aid medication supplies, such as antiseptics, bandages, and wound dressings.

In addition, prepare general medications that can help with minor health problems that may arise during the trip, such as sore throat, fever, cough, flu, stomach ulcer, stomach acid, pain relievers, and medication to prevent motion sickness.

If you or a family member has a certain disease and regularly takes medication, make sure the medication is brought in sufficient quantities during the homecoming period so as not to interfere with the trip's smoothness.

5. Ensure adequate hydration

Dehydration during travel can cause the body to tire quickly, increase heart rate, and even confusion. Ensure you drink at least two liters of water per day or according to your body's needs. Excessive consumption of sweet drinks, including caffeine, may raise the risk of dehydration.

However, also avoid drinking excessively because it can trigger more frequent urination. This will be troublesome, especially if there is no rest area nearby.

Holding your urine too often can also be dangerous because it can increase the risk of urinary tract infections.

6. Vaccination

Getting vaccinated before going home can protect you reducing the risk of contracting various diseases during Eid.

Vaccination can prevent respiratory infections like influenza and pneumonia, which commonly arise during homecoming.

Influenza and pneumococcus vaccines are suggested to prevent influenza virus infections and pneumonia, which can cause severe symptoms.

Gastrointestinal diseases include diarrhea, typhoid, and hepatitis A. Vaccination can prevent the risk of infection from consuming unhygienic food or drinks.

Other infectious diseases include Singapore flu (HMFD), chickenpox, mumps, measles, and dengue fever.

Vaccination should be done at least two weeks before the trip to anticipate post-immunization events (KIPI) and ensure the body has formed immunity.
